Warning Signs

When Your Atlanta Hedges Need a Trim

Atlanta's humid summers push hedges to grow fast between spring and fall. Privet and boxwood hedges around Grant Park and Virginia-Highland bungalows can shoot out new growth within weeks of a trim. If your hedge blocks a window, hangs over a walkway, or looks shaggy at the top, it's time to call. Waiting too long makes the wood thicker and harder to shape. Dense overgrowth traps moisture that invites fungus in our humid climate. A sharp pair of hedge shears or a power trimmer does the real work here[1]. We've trimmed hedges for clients in Buckhead and East Atlanta Village. They waited a full season too long and paid more for the fix.

Common Jobs

Overgrown Privacy Hedges

Thick privet or ligustrum hedges that have taken over a fence line. We cut them back to a clean, even shape.

Shaping and Form Pruning

Boxwood and holly hedges that need crisp lines for curb appeal. We shape them square or rounded, your choice.

Overgrown Window Blocks

Hedges that have grown past the sill and block sunlight. We cut them down to size without killing the plant.

Seasonal Maintenance Trims

Regular trims every six to eight weeks during our growing season. This keeps hedges from ever getting out of hand.

Storm-Damaged Hedges

Ice storms and summer winds can snap branches. We clean up the damage and reshape what's left.

New Hedge Shaping

Young hedges need early shaping to grow thick and even later. We start them off right.

Fair Pricing

Hedge Trimming Cost in Atlanta

Price depends on how tall and thick your hedges are and how many feet run along your property line. A privet hedge that hasn't been cut all year costs more than a boxwood we trim every month. We quote a flat price before we start, so you won't see hidden fees on your bill. Most Atlanta yards fall in a common range. We're happy to give a free estimate over the phone or at your home.

Awesome crew with incredible customer service. Couldn’t have been an easier experience. I like that they’re practically my neighbors and take care of my lawn maintenance in Edgewood like it was their own. Grant is a super cool dude!

Great landscaping service. I worked with Grant and Abe. Both were good at communicating. Abe and his crew fantastic and the result looks awesome. We had a bunch of rock dropped off and the delivery driver nicked our gate but Grant offered to repair it and ordered a replacement part for the fix. That's top notch.

LOVED working with Grantlanta! I worked with Zach B to get a huge, overgrown swath of my backyard fully cleared. Zach was diligent about communicating and scheduling, and was kind and knowledgeable. Grant himself also assisted in the clearing and hauling, which I really appreciated. All in all, an excellent experience and I’m excited to keep working with them in the future.

Grantlanta did an excellent job resetting my front and back yard allowing me to keep my sanity given the amount of rain that resulted in a ton of overgrowth. They removed and cleaned everything we discussed and mulched where it needed to be mulched. All was done on time with great attention to detail. I’m very happy with the result, to say the least!

Common Questions

Hedge Trimming Questions Answered

Here are answers to what Atlanta homeowners ask us most.

  • How much does hedge trimming cost in Atlanta?

Most jobs run between $75 and $450. The price depends on hedge height, width, and how overgrown it is. We give a free quote before we start so you know the cost upfront.

  • How long does a hedge trimming job take?

Most trims take under two hours. Larger properties with long hedge lines in Buckhead or Sandy Springs can take half a day. We always clean up before we leave.

  • Should I trim my own hedges or hire a pro?

A DIY trim works fine for small, simple hedges. But uneven cuts or wrong-season trims can stress the plant for months. We know the right time and angle for each species in our clay soil.

  • How often should hedges be trimmed in Atlanta?

Most hedges need a trim every six to eight weeks during growing season, March through October. Slower growers like boxwood can go longer. We'll tell you what your hedge needs.

  • How fast can you get to an overgrown hedge?

We can often schedule a trim within the week. If a hedge is blocking a walkway or window, call us and we'll move fast to fit you in.

  • What are signs my hedge needs trimming?

Look for new growth sticking out past the main shape, brown patches inside the hedge, or branches blocking light. Thick, dense growth that traps moisture is also a sign, especially in our humid summers.

  • Will trimming hurt my hedge?

No, a proper trim helps hedges grow thicker and healthier. We cut just above old growth nodes so new shoots fill in fast. Bad cuts from dull tools are what actually hurt a hedge.
